The 2010 club season for the Lodi-based Delta Valley Volleyball Club's 15-1 Team has come to an end. Like a roller coaster ride, the season included ups, down, twists, and turns, but, in the end, their performances thrilled and excited all who were able to see them play! The words that come to mind when watching this talented group of young ladies play volleyball are: athletic, powerful, competitive, and, above all else, passionate about playing volleyball. Perfectionists by nature, they all gave 110% of themselves every second on the court, whether at practice or competition. This level of commitment is the reason they continued to get better at the sport they love throughout the season. The team began the season in 21st place in the NCVA Power League 15's Division. They battled and fought their way up to 11th place, ending in Gold Division. Disappointed at missing out on a bid to Jr. Nationals by 3 places, they redirected their focus and, in the end, they finished with a shut-out, 6-0 match wins, to take First Place in the 15's Gold Division at the NCVA Great America Tournament!

Coached by Danny Coonan, UC Davis alum, the small team of 8 players compiled a match W-L record of 40-28, and traveled throughout northern CA, as well as, to Spokane WA. Three returning players from the 2009 season: Bana Rousan, Libero, (Beyer H.S, Modesto), Sarina Brown, Setter, (Argonaut H.S, Jackson), and Megan Byrne, OH, (St. Mary's H.S, Stockton) were joined by new players: Kaitlin Drake, MB, (Lodi H.S, Lodi), Leah Peterson, MB, (Argonaut H.S, Jackson), Brionna Thompson, OH, (Franklin H.S, Elk Grove), Morgan Zaffarano, RS, (Argonaut H.S, Jackson), and Arianna Brusa, Setter, (Tokay H.S, Lodi).

Delta Valley 14 Blue Takes 1st Place In Northern California Volleyball
The 2010 season has been quite a journey for the Lodi-based Delta Valley Volleyball Club's 14 year old girls team. From hopeful expectations in the pre-season, Delta secured Northern California's # 1 spot for their age group in the 2010 power league season. Having compiled a year-to-date record of 75 wins and only 6 losses (3 losses to older age groups – 16s and 15s), this group of young women have proven to themselves that setting lofty goals can be achieved.

Coached by Richard Chan and Michelle Shelton of Stockton, the team was assembled last fall. Delta combined 6 returning players from 2009's successful 13 year old squad, along with 3 new players. Team chemistry grew rapidly, and the early season showcased a team that played and executed like they'd been together for years. They work hard, play loose, and continually rise to the occasion in pressure-packed games. A key element to their success, as noted by both parents and competitors alike, is that this Delta team truly 'has fun together', both on and off the court.

Noteworthy achievements this year include:

27-0 record in NCVA Power League
1st place finish in NCVA Power League
1st place in 14 OPEN at the Pacific Northwest National Qualifier (Spokane, WA)
2nd place in 14 OPEN at the Northeast National Qualifier (Baltimore MD)
1st place in 14 OPEN at the Far Westerns National Qualifier (Reno, NV)
1st place in 16 Division at Great American Tournament

Delta Valley 14 Blue will be competing in June at both the AAU Jr. Nationals in Orlando, Florida and returning to Reno, Nevada for the Junior Olympics. These two tournaments are national events which will feature the best teams in their age group from across the country.

Local members of the team include: From Elk Grove, Iris Anderson, Claire Autry and Courtney Fong, and from Lodi, Kelsey Cooley and Kirstin Kielhold. Andie Shelton of Stockton, Gianna and Katrin Gotterba of Tracy, and Belin Castillo of Merced round out the squad.
